On Wednesday evenings, we will be gathering around tables to enjoy food together and then to dig into Gospel focused content. Over the last four years we have focused our Fall studies on one of the four Gospels. Now that we have ventured through all four, we are going to go back and visit those same stories from a slightly different perspective. Many of you have probably heard of the TV show called The Chosen. It is a series that utilizes dramatization of scriptural accounts as well as speculative, historically accurate, fictional story telling to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of the ordinary people who would have encountered him and followed him. Each episode focuses on a different story from the Gospel accounts (or multiple stories), so we will use those episodes as jumping off points for further discussion on the story of Jesus in conjunction with the scriptural accounts. The dramatization of the story does a fantastic job of providing some of the cultural/historical details that we sometimes don’t pick up on in the scriptures but that help bring the story alive in fresh ways and invite reflection on who Jesus is and what it means to truly follow him. After viewing each episode or portions of episodes we will have our usual breakout discussion times to dig deeper.

With the return to our Table Talks routine, the opportunity to once again play a part in what we do on Wednesday nights has arrived as well. If you and/or a group of you would like to sign up to provide and serve some of the meals throughout the semester we would love to have you! If you did it last year the process will be identical with one key difference. You will notice that there are three nights throughout the semester that have an earlier time listed for the event. Three times throughout the semester (Sept. 11, Oct. 23, Dec. 11) we are going to have a watch party to be able to view the entirety of one of the longer episodes. We will still do dinner like always but we will do it thirty minutes earlier than our usual Wednesday nights and the location will likely be different.
